LORY

Born in Galliate (NO) on March 30, 1993, he developed an interest in music thanks to his mother's old upright piano, where he enjoyed transposing the recorder music he had started studying in middle school.

A few years after beginning private piano lessons, he enrolled at the "Guido Cantelli" Higher Institute of Musical Studies in Novara, where he was admitted to the piano class of Maestro Giorgio Costa. Later, he decided to change paths, leaving the piano class in favor of the Composition classes under Maestros Marco Lasagna, Massimo Bertola, and Emanuela Ballio, where he completed his preparatory studies.

Throughout his musical journey, he participated in masterclasses with other renowned composers, such as Emilio Calandín and Marco Di Bari, and collaborated with chamber music ensembles like the Trio Luzzani and the ViBeRian trio, as well as larger groups like the ArtEssenziale Ensemble, in both cases as a transcriber and arranger.

In parallel with his classical training and aided by his university studies in computer science, he developed a strong interest in orchestral music for visual media, assisted by computers, which allowed him to create realistic simulations of his compositions.

During his exploration and experimentation with new timbres, he became interested in the Scottish bagpipes, beginning to teach himself the instrument under the guidance of his first teacher, Ewan Boyd, in Edinburgh.

He is currently studying the Scottish bagpipes under Giancarlo Percopo, founder of Cornamusa Milano and former piper of Folkstone, and is a member of Celtic Knot Pipes and Drums, a Scottish bagpipe and percussion band formed in 2020 that, despite its recent establishment, has already performed extensively across northern Italy.

His collaboration with Highway to Hell began by chance when the band, shortly before a live show in the Novara area, remarked, "It would be really great if we had a real bagpipe for this piece."
